The Columbia Christian College A Cappella Chorus is a select group of thirty-four voices. Membership in the group is obtained through audition by the director. The A Cappella Chorus enjoys two tours each year and presents to its audience a program of secular and religious music. The program for this record is a representative collection of numbers performed on the spring tour, 1966. The quartet and sextet are the select ensemble groups chosen through audition by the director. The quartet and sextet are vital parts of the music program at Columbia. They perform for many different functions during the school year. The quartet also travels for the school during the summer, appearing at summer camps and congregations of the Church of Christ throughout the entire summer. The Newcomers are a new addition to the music department at Columbia Christian. This folk-singing group has gained in popularity since its beginning in September of 1965 and is in constant demand in Portland and outlying areas.
Paul R. Piersall, director of the A Cappella Chorus, is a graduate of Central Washington State College, and is director of music at Columbia Christian College.
Columbia Christian College is a private two year liberal arts college located in Portland, Oregon, the City of Roses.
The first meeting of those interested in the establishment of a Christian school to serve the Northwest came about in 1947. The school has grown greatly from that time and has enjoyed a 25 to 30 percent growth each year for the past five years.
The purpose of Columbia is to educate young people to live as Christian citizens in a free society, to appreciate the dignity of work, to prepare for the practice of personally satisfying and useful vocations, and to give the first two years’ work leading to a baccalaureate degree.
Columbia Christian College is a junior college of high standards, offering two years of college work. Its work is accepted in full by most other colleges and universities. We are incorporated in the state of Oregon as a nonprofit educational institution empowered to grant high school and junior college degrees. A student graduating from this school can enter other senior colleges if he does approved work in the schools.
